2009 Resurrection Sunday

Each year I look for something especially meaningful on the weekend on which we celebrate the Resurrection of Christ. This Sunday, as has been my habit in recent years, I attended Sunrise Service. The scripture text for the message was from John’s account, chapter 20. As we read the text, I noticed that Mary Magdalene came to Peter and John and said that Jesus’ body had been stolen. Peter and John ran to the tomb, went in, saw the graveclothes, and the verse 20:8 says they “believed.” Believed Mary?

Whatever they ‘believed,’ they ‘went away again unto their own homes,’ leaving Mary M. outside the tomb weeping. It was to Mary that Jesus appeared. Jesus then directed her to go ‘to my brethren, and say unto them’ what He told her to say. Now why did our Lord wait until it was Mary to give this directive to go teach the men? Why did He not simply appear to Peter and John, relying on men to teach men? That Jesus so purposed to make Mary Magdalene the first bearer of the ‘good news’ of His resurrection, broke upon me in that reading with an explosion of insight!

In the early 1990s I had a dream. I don’t know why I had a dream like this; no special trial of life was answered. It was just a dream. [Click "dream" to read the full account]

But what a dream! In the two decades since, it has given me a fixed goal to answer storms of life I knew not at the time of the dream I would encounter.

The dream is a momentary vision of heaven. If you do not wish to read the whole story, here is the ONE FEATURE of the heaven I saw that overrides ALL. When I state this one feature, nothing more needs be said on the subject. You can BEGRINNING when you know that JESUS IS THERE!

Don’t miss it! That is the ONE FEATURE that overrides ALL: Jesus IS there! That is the whole story, and all anyone needs to know on the topic. Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you so that where I am, there you may be also.”

Jesus didn’t say anything about mansions or golden streets or city or pearly gates or even departed loved ones. In the fourteenth chapter of John in the New Testament, which begins with “Let not your hearts be troubled…” [He wanted you and I to be grinning!] He claims only “where I am,” you can be also! That is all anyone needs to know of heaven. If you know God to give only perfect gifts, and to love you beyond any human love, then you know He will lavish you with a great deal more than you could ever imagine! That includes departed friends and family, the pearliest of pearly gates, golden streets, any other feature… Look only to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Begrinning!
